The Italian American Heritage Society of Long Island is saddened to hear about the passing of proud Italian American Richard Gambino, who had a distinguished career as a historian and professor specializing in Italian American heritage and culture. He lived in Southampton, NY.
At Queens College, he founded the country’s first Italian American Studies program, and he was the author of the New York Times bestselling book “Blood of My Blood: The Dilemma of Italian Americans” (Doubleday, 1973).
Mr. Gambino will be missed, but his legacy as someone who cared deeply about our heritage lives on.
