Christen Visceglie, a longtime leader of the Long Island chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Italian, is the latest to be announced as an honoree of the Italian American Heritage Society of Long Island. Tickets and sponsorships are available for the event now.
Visceglie is a dedicated Italian educator at Manhasset Secondary School, promoting Italian language and culture across all levels of education.
She has contributed to Manhasset’s curriculum development and taught levels 1 through Advanced Placement. She serves as Vice President of K-12 for the National American Association of Teachers of Italian and has held various roles in the Long Island Chapter’s Executive Board.
In response to the needs of Italian educators in the tri-state area, Christen initiated the AATI-LI Annual Italian Teacher Conference and has conducted workshops and webinars on pedagogy, culture, and instructional technologies. For the past 12 years, she has taught community courses at Stony Brook University for heritage speakers and Italian for travelers from college-age students to retirees.
A recipient of the NYS Association of Foreign Languages’ Italian teacher grant in 2015, she studied at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia. Christen is passionate about integrating her experiences into the classroom, helping students connect with Italian culture while exploring and finding their interests.
